Take a Tour of the GreenWave Seed Bank and Nursery

Over the past five years, the lack of reliable, affordable seed has emerged as a major roadblock to the growth of the regenerative ocean farming industry. GreenWave is changing this trajectory. In a partnership with Hortimare, a global leader in seed production, GreenWave revamped our nursery facility in 2022 to tackle these industry challenges. By implementing next-generation infrastructure designs and methodologies, we can provide reliable, affordable, and timely kelp seed to the ocean farming community. As a result of this work, farms using seed from GreenWave’s seed bank reported a doubling of yields in the 2023/2024 season. GreenWave shares these innovations with our broader network through in-person workshops, webinars, and courses on the Ocean Farming Hub, so that farmers can replicate these farmer-forward tools and techniques in their own operations. This work puts farmers on the cutting edge of innovation, protecting their ownership over their seed supply.

For an inside look at our approach, join us for a tour of GreenWave’s seed bank and nursery, guided by our Director of Infrastructure, Toby Sheppard Bloch. Here, you’ll see firsthand how our farmer-forward seed infrastructure is supporting the future of ocean farming.
