Karen Gray | California
Women are contributing at every level of the regenerative ocean farming industry; among them are farmers, entrepreneurs, hatchery technicians, scientists, and policy experts - like Karen Gray. Formerly a staff member of California’s Coastal Commission, Karen is using her deep regulatory knowledge to support the new regenerative ocean farming economy. In her current role as GreenWave’s California Reef Manager, Karen is creating a path towards a streamlined permitting process for new farmers. She also builds relationships with strategic partners and supports the operations of regenerative ocean farmers working to establish a network of sustainable, small-scale ocean farms along the California coast. Karen’s work in supporting new farmers is critical to establishing a regenerative ocean farming economy in California.
With a Master’s degree in Marine Conservation and a personal passion for diving and open water swimming, Karen is fully committed to fighting climate change and improving ocean health through regenerative ocean farming (she’s even discovered two species of seaweeds!). At GreenWave, we’re inspired by leaders like Karen who are making progress in the policy realm—a critical component of the developing regenerative ocean farming economy.
